Trying to get your Web site properly listed in search engines? Make sure your Web developer has placed meta tags in the HTML code of your site. Many search engines use “bots” or “spiders” to “crawl” through the Web and automatically index Web pages into their searchable databases. Every search engine works differently; some will index your site by meta tags while others will index by the actual text on the pages.

Meta tags include strategic selections of keywords that best describe your site and a very brief sentence that encapsulates the purpose of your Web site. Here’s an example.

META name=“description” content=“Buy hair and skin products recommended by beauty experts at Salon AKS, Madison Avenue, New York City offering services including hair cuts, color, style, facials, body waxing, manicure, pedicure.”

META name=“keywords” content=“hair salon, spa, New York City, NY, Alain Pinon, Kao Hui, Susanna Romano, cut, color, style, facials, waxing, manicure, pedicure, Madison Avenue, hair, body”
